Our 20 and 30-hour online Weekend English programmes use a subject-based approach to teach English to students aged 9-13 years.

Designed around the British curriculum and taught by Rugby School teachers, each module pre-teaches vocabulary and concepts needed to help them access international curricula and thrive within an English-speaking school.

We also offer the 30-hour course as a Summer ‘Head Start’ programme, which this year will run during the weeks commencing 4th and 11th August 2025.

Weekend English

Course Details

  • 20 Hour Programme

    • Initial Assessment, enabling us to determine each student’s proficiency and tailor their learning journey accordingly.

    • 2 hours of study each weekend, for 10 weeks.

    • Maximum 8 students per group, focusing on English for Academic Study.

    • Online tools and assignments to reinforce learning and encourage self-study.

    • Final assessment to objectively gauge each student’s progress on the course.

    • Certificate and report which can be used to demonstrate English ability as part of international school applications.

    30 Hour Programme

    In addition, this programme includes:

    • 2 hours of study each weekend, for 15 weeks. Group classes, with small groups containing a maximum of 8 students.

    • 1:1 tutoring session to address specific learning requirements.

    • CEFR Level: A1-B2 (students are placed in ability groups based on their initial assessment)

    • 20 Hour Programme: £520 / student

    • 30 Hour Programme: £990 / student

Progress Tracking

In addition to feedback after each class, students and parents also have access to their live tracker where they can see the teacher comments after each class and check their overall progress and areas for improvement.

Teachers

  • AINNIE

    Ainnie has over nine years of teaching experience and currently teaches at Rugby School Thailand, helping diverse young learners acquire English as a second and foreign language through 1:1 and small group lessons. She is heavily involved in designing and delivering content-focused EAL lessons to support learners in accessing the mainstream curriculum.

  • JAY

    Originally from New Zealand, Jay is an inclusion focused educator with 25 years’ experience in international teaching and coordinating school EAL programmes. He has a UK Master of Arts in Education (distinction) with an EAL focused thesis, a PGCEi (UK) and a BA from New Zealand. Jay believes it is the recognition of multilingual pupils’ unique learning needs that leads to both academic success and fulfilled potential of the whole person.

FAQs

  • We welcome students at all stages in their English language learning journey. Most students will join the course between A2/A1-B2 and we will place them in a group depending on their level after assessment.

  • A placement test is initially completed to determine CEFR level. It is an online assessment and a link is sent to the student after enrolment onto the course. Based on the level attained in their assessment, students will be assigned a group for the course.

  • There will be homework assignments and quizzes assigned at the end of each day. These have all been designed to fit seamlessly into the curriculum and enhance the student’s learning as they progress through the programme.

  • Group sizes are small, with a maximum of 8 students per class. More often, the groups are around 5 students in size. The small group environment helps to strengthen language learning because students are able to engage with their classmates and participate with students across different cultures.

  • Given the small group sizes and regular quizzes and activities, it is very easy for the class teacher to track student progress and provide a progress report at the end of each day. We have a course progress tracker which enables teachers to log student progress each lesson and track student attainment on the homework and classwork. This is fed back to parents after each lesson. At the end of the programme, students also receive a detailed progress report linking their attainment to CEFR levels as well as a course certificate.
